Sporting CP are Primeira Liga champions, making it back-to-back titles for the first time since 1954. They sealed the title on the final day by beating Vitória S.C. 2–0 at home with Benfica, who needed a larger win than Sporting to win on goal difference, drawing 1–1 with Braga.

It’s been a difficult season for Os Leões with Ruben Amorim leaving for Manchester United at the start of year and some shaky form a few weeks later but the team rallied round and got the job done. Viktor Gyökeres was the top scorer again with 39 goals in 33 league matches this season (53 in 51 in all competitions). Last season, I sensed that Gyökeres could end up leaving and it looks like he’ll either go to Arsenal or Manchester United which will be sad but inevitable.

But 3 titles in 5 seasons is one helluva haul. Here’s to some European silverware soon (please)!

Campeões, Campeões, Olé, Olé, Olé!
