Roland-Garros
Did you know that the inaugural French Open in 1891 was played on grass? The winner was an H. Briggs, a British man who lived in Paris. It was his one and only grand slam and that was the only French Open played on grass. (Women didn’t compete in the singles tournament until 1897).
Rafael Nadal spoke to Roland-Garros about his legacy and memories of the tournament that he made his home. ICYMI somehow, he won it 14 times which will likely be an unbroken record.
It’s been 26 years since Gustavo Kuerten aka “Guga” won his first Roland-Garros title. The folks at Roland-Garros visited the Brazilian in his home nation to talk to him about that iconic win and his life along with his family and his first coach.
