Back in 2021, Sporting CP won their first league title in 19 years and, after a few faltering seasons, they’ve won it again. The title was sealed when Benfica lost 2-0 away to Famalicão and it meant the title would stay in Lisbon but the town would be painted green and white.
It’s been a phenomenal season for Os Leões and a lot of the credit goes to Vincent Gyokeres who scored 41 goals in 47 in his debut season. My only worry is that a Premier League team will poach him, like Liverpool, and Ruben Amorim will follow (or even bring him to Anfield if the rumours become reality). But let’s not dwell on that. 2 titles in 4 seasons after none in 19 is one helluva haul. Here’s to some European silverware soon!
