It’s 28 years to the day that Argentina beat Nigeria 2-1 in the 1994 FIFA World Cup. An early goal from Samson Siasia (and what a sublime goal it was) opening the scoring but two from Claudio Caniggia gave the Argentines all two points (this was the last World Cup to give two points for a win).
While Nigeria finished as Group D winners by goal difference, Argentina had to settle for qualification as one of the best third-placed teams so the win was vital for them.
