The Tables is a wonderful documentary about the table tennis tables in New York’s Bryant Park and the people who play on them. You have people of all ages, races, genders, and life situations coming together for games of ping pong.
Amongst the homeless people, bike messengers, and a dude who plays with a block of wood, there’s also a pro player named Wally Green who swapped guns for paddles and has competed for the US in international tournaments. He said how he played “undercover” and that his company, SPiN New York, had provided the tables (apparently as marketing tool for the club when it opened) and loved the community it helped to create.
If you can spare 15 minutes of your day, watch The Tables and enjoy.
