When Carlos Valderrama carried the Olympic torch in Windsor

2021 is technically an Olympic year thanks to COVID-19 so I thought I’d share this.

During the countdown to London 2012, Carlos Valderrama was chosen to represent Colombia in the Olympic torch relay along with presenter Guillermo Prieto. He passed through Windsor on 10th July that year and although Colombia didn’t qualify for the men’s Olympic football tournament that year, the women’s team did where they finished bottom of their group.

“I’m very proud, this is a dream come true. It’s an honor and I want Colombians to be proud of it.”

In the end, Colombia came away with 8 medals including Mariana Pajón’s gold medal in the women’s BMX event. Carlos Oquendo won bronze in the men’s BMX too.
