Julian Germain is a British photographer with a love of Subbuteo and superheroes and in his latest book, In Soccer Wonderland, he’s combined the two to create Subbuteo Superheroes. Creating these mini heroes involved painting and remodelling a variety of Subbuteo players which he’d found in an attic, with the likes of Batman, Superman, and Thor transformed into miniature figures.
Subbuteo Superheroes also serves as a metaphor for how children have grown up idolising their favourite footballers, who performed super human feats to overcome adversities and entertain.
