It discusses the idea of “oil patterns” on bowling lanes and how bowlers can use these to their advantage. Pros usually spin the ball, allowing for a hooked motion to hit what’s called “the pocket” – a spot between the first and second or first and third pins at the front. If you hit there, you’re almost certainly getting a strike but it has to be spinning into the pins to work. All the oil patterns have their own names and come in different shapes, sizes, and lengths.
