Yesterday, LeBron James achieved what was thought to be impossible: he surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s NBA all-time regular scoring record. He did so in a defeat to the Oklahoma City Thunder (130–133) but that didn’t tarnish the accomplishment. What’s more, Abdul-Jabbar was in attendance to witness it.
It’s a record that has stood since April 1984 (eight months before James was born) and congratulations and praise has flooded social media. The GOAT debate will never die but there’s no disputing who has the most points now.
