Topspin is an intriguing short film featuring scenes from a table tennis match between Sweden’s Ulf Carlsson and West Germany’s Peter Stellwag. Both players were world and national champions so the matchplay was of a high calibre. The film was directed by Joachim Kreck, known for his other sporting films such as Fussballspiele (1976) and No 1 (1973). What makes Topspin so unique is the lack of commentary and the use of imagery and music to set the mood.
