The science behind a sit ski

A sit ski is a type of ski with a mounted seat, or “bucket”. They’re used by disabled athletes and feature prominently at the Winter Paralympics.

There are two types of sit ski:

  • The bi-ski with 2 short skis underneath
  • The mono ski with just 1 ski underneath

X-Games looked at the science behind sit skis and how the pros make them fly like skis for able-bodied athletes. Spoiler alert: it’s down to amazing engineering and incredible athletes.
