Remembering Eric Moussambani at Sydney 2000

Eric Moussambani is a former Olympic swimmer from Equatorial Guinea. He is best known for winning a heat with the slowest time in Olympic history (1:52.72). He achieved his win due to his other competitors being disqualified for false starts. Moussambani didn’t make it to the next round, but his appearance meant a new personal best and a new national record.

The video above tells the full story of how he became a swimmer and what it meant to him to qualify for the Olympics and swim in Sydney.
