Just found out about this today from Rappcats—the Detroit Pistons commemorated J Dilla’s 50th birthday (which was on 10th Feb this year) with a “Dilla-inspired retail capsule“:
[…] The capsule will be available for purchase on March 13 on the Pistons online shop, at the arena in Detroit, and an item exclusive to J Dilla’s Pay Jay label will be available at Rappcats.com. The line is curated by Detroit Rapper Royce 5’9” and contains artwork from J Dilla’s Donuts artist Jeff Jank
The team was connected to the Estate of James Yancey representing his four heirs – his daughters Ja’Mya Yancey and Ty’Monae Whitlow, his brother John “Illa J” Yancey and his mother Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey. From there, the project was set in motion.
The capsule will be up for sale on the Pistons’s online store on 13th March
