The controversy of Madrid's blue clay

Never has a court surface been so controversial as to be banned completely. Well, allegedly. Players complained the blue clay was too slippery and made balls bounce unevenly. It caused Nadal to uncharacteristically lose and won Federer a rare clay court title in Madrid in 2012. He became the first, last, and currently only men’s singles player to win a tournament on blue clay. And then it was changed back to red clay. No bans for grass after the yearly slips and injuries there though.
