Axel Kei is now the youngest player in MLS history

Freddy Adu’s MLS record has finally been broken by Real Salt Lake’s newest striker Axel Kei.

The club signed the 14-year-old to a two-year first-team contract on Friday 14th January. At 14 years old and 15 days, he is 153 days younger than Freddy Adu was when he signed for D.C. United back in 2004. In October last year, he made history by becoming the youngest player to appear for a professional American sports team at 13 years, 9 months and 9 days.

Let’s just hope Axel Kei’s career doesn’t follow the same path as Freddy Adu’s.
