Argentina beat Brazil to qualify for the Olympics in Paris this year and leave Seleção at home. Mauricio Savarese also wrote about how this defeat for Brazil is part of a growing problem in the sport, but ended with a silver lining:
The team that failed to qualify for the Barcelona Games in 1992 included Cafu, Márcio Santos and Roberto Carlos, who all went on to win the World Cup. And the squad that missed out on the Athens Games in 2004 included future stars Maicon, Diego and Robinho.
The 1992 example is important as it came two years after defeat to Argentina at Italia 90 as well but they made up for it with a World Cup win in 1994. Could 2026 be their year?
