Madison Keys defeated Aryna Sabalenka 6–3, 2–6, 7–5 to win her first Australian Open title and her first grand slam overall. The 29 year old won the first set quite comfortably, capitalising on Sabalenka’s lackluster performances. But Sabalenka found her rhythm and took the match to a third set where it was even until 5–5 when Keys got the decisive break and held for her maiden slam.
It’s worth noting that Keys beat 4 top ten players en route to the title, including world #2 Iga Świątek in the semifinals and then the defending champion and world #1 in the final.
Congratulations, Madison!
