Jessica Bouzas Maneiro knocks out reigning Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in straight sets

There’s something we didn’t see coming. Jessica Bouzas Maneiro knocked out the reigning Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in straight sets today, 6–4 6–2. The Spaniard played brilliantly, taking all 5 of her break points and winning 77% on her first serve compared to Vondrousova’s 55%.

For Vondrousova, it’s another entry in the history books but for the wrong reasons: she’s only the second defending champion to lose in the first round after Steffi Graf who lose to Lori McNeil in 1994.
